Tirupati: Believe it or not, India’s richest temple – Sri Venkateshwara Temple in Tirupati has turned richer after the government announced its demonetisation move.

As per sources, the number of people donating Rs 500 and Rs 1000 denomination currency notes has shot up drastically and in view of this, the authorities at the temple in Tirupati have installed another collection box or hundi.

Reportedly, there is no ban on Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes at the temple as far as donation is concerned. No temple authority can question the devotees about their offering because it is personal and matter of faith. Hence, making full use of the same, devotees are seen pouring the currency notes, which will soon be invalid.

However, the Devaswam Board makes sure that it does not accept the Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes for other services in the temple.

Credit and debit card swiping machines have been installed at the temple for the smooth transaction of daily proceedings.
