A heartbreaking accident claimed the life of a two-year-old boy who fell into a water tank at an under-construction house in Karungalpalayam, Erode. The child, Harish, succumbed to his injuries at the Government Medical College and Hospital on Wednesday despite intensive treatment.

Harish was the son of Mukesh, a construction labourer, and Sabitha, who works at a nearby textile firm. The couple, originally from Bihar, lives in Kakkan Nagar. On June 30, Sabitha had brought the boy to her workplace but later left him under the care of Mukesh, who was working on a construction site close to her office.

While playing at the site, the toddler accidentally slipped into an uncovered six-foot-deep water tank located on the ground floor. Alarmed by the incident, fellow workers quickly pulled the child out and rushed him to the government hospital. He was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, but sadly, he could not be saved.

After the post-mortem was completed, Harish’s body was handed over to his devastated parents.

The Karungalpalayam police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. Authorities are also expected to examine potential negligence at the construction site.

This incident highlights the urgent need for stricter safety measures at construction zones, especially where families and children may be present.
