In a heartbreaking incident reported from Salem on Monday, June 30, 2025, a 21-year-old medical student lost her life in an apparent suicide attempt. The victim, S. Laksana, hailed from Sengappa Nagar near Keezhakadu in Coimbatore district. She was pursuing her second year of MBBS at a well-known private medical college in Salem.
Laksana had been residing in a hostel facility provided by the college, where she lived with her mother. Her mother is employed at a nearby private dental college. On the day of the incident, Laksana was alone in her hostel room when she reportedly tried to take her own life under circumstances that are still under investigation.
Hearing commotion or sensing distress, local residents quickly intervened and rushed her to the hospital in a desperate bid to save her. Despite their efforts, she was declared dead while being transported to the medical facility.
