Ahmednagar: In a heartbreaking incident in Maharashtra’s Ahmednagar district, an 11-month-old baby lost his life after being struck on the head with a trident during a family argument.
The tragedy unfolded on Thursday in the Ambegaon rehabilitation colony in Kedgaon, approximately 70 km from Pune. The deceased infant, Avdhut Mengwade, was caught in the middle of a heated domestic clash.
According to police reports, the confrontation began between Pallavi Mengwade and her husband Sachin Mengwade. As tensions escalated, Pallavi allegedly picked up a trishul and attempted to strike her brother-in-law, Nitin Mengwade, who, along with his wife Bhagyashree, was trying to pacify the couple.
Bhagyashree was holding baby Avdhut at the time. In a split second, Nitin dodged the weapon, but the trishul fatally hit the child, causing a severe head injury. The infant died instantly and was declared dead upon arrival at a nearby hospital.
Senior Inspector Narayan Deshmukh confirmed that cases have been filed against Pallavi and Sachin Mengwade. All three adults present — Pallavi, Sachin, and Nitin — have been taken into custody for questioning.
Authorities suspect an attempt to destroy evidence, noting that the trishul was washed clean and bloodstains were wiped from the room. A forensic team has collected samples, and a detailed investigation is ongoing.
