New Delhi: Journalist and Editor of Republic TV, Arnab Goswami has been facing backlash online recently. On Wednesday, April 22 afternoon, #ArrestAntiIndiaArnab was the top trending hashtag on Twitter.
Indian Twitter users have been demanding that Goswami be arrested for being “anti-India” and a “hate-monger”.
They slammed Goswami and his TV channel for their work ethic and for spreading hate among different communities in the country.
By around 5 PM on Wednesday, nearly 1.5 lakh people tweeted using #ArrestAntiIndiaArnab, taking it to the top on the list of trending hashtags in India.
They were specifically tweeting about Goswami’s recent debate on the Palghar lynching incident, to which he attempted to add communal colours. Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh’s clarification that no Muslims among the people arrested for the lynching also drove the demand for Goswami’s arrest.
During the controversial debate, Goswami had called out the Congress party for their silence on the incident and insisted that AICC interim-president Sonia Gandhi was “happy” that it was Hindu sadhus who were lynched and not Muslim men. He also tried to drive home the narrative that the two sadhus were lynched by members of the minority community.
Video clippings of the debate shared by the Twitter users also showed how the Republic TV Editor tried to blame the minority community for the spread of COVID-19 in the country.
Among the people calling for Arnab Goswami’s arrest were National Media coordinator of the INC Radhika Khera and former NSUI President Alka Lamba.

Interestingly enough, Goswami quit the Editor’s Guild during the same debate that is now being used to call for his arrest.
