In a shocking incident at Budithi Community Health Centre (CHC) in Saravakota village, Srikakulam district, two young pregnant women passed away under unclear circumstances shortly after childbirth, triggering anger and demonstrations by their families.

The deceased were identified as 21-year-old Patta Aruna from Kameswaripeta and 22-year-old Korlapu Dhanalaxmi from Pagodu village in Jalumuru mandal. Both had been admitted to the CHC for delivery. Doctors performed C-sections on both women, and each gave birth to a baby boy.

Soon after the deliveries, their health reportedly began to worsen rapidly. Within hours, both women slipped into unconsciousness.

The patients were moved to RIMS Government Hospital in Srikakulam for advanced care. Doctors there carried out emergency hysterectomies in an attempt to stabilise their condition. Despite this, neither woman recovered.

Tragically, they were brought back to Budithi CHC on Wednesday. Doctors there confirmed their deaths.

Furious relatives and villagers gathered at the health centre, accusing the medical team of negligence. They later continued their protest at the Saravakota police station, demanding strict action against those responsible.

With tensions rising, community elders and police authorities stepped in to mediate. Reports suggest that the issue was temporarily settled after CHC staff promised ₹4 lakh compensation to each bereaved family.

District Collector Swapnil Dinkar Pundkar has ordered a formal investigation. Meanwhile, District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) Dr. K Anitha visited the facility and has begun collecting statements and records related to the tragic deaths.
