Undertrial throws slipper at judge enraged over appointment of new counsel

Mumbai: Upset over the court’s decision to appoint a new counsel, an accused undergoing trial in a murder case, attempted to assault the judge by throwing his slipper at him. Th incident took place on Friday, June 28, in a sessions court in Thane. The accused is identified as Ganesh Gaikwad.

Sources from the police say that the judge announced that a new counsel shall be appointed for Gaikwad, as his advocate was not present in the court for the hearing. Enraged by this, Gaikward threw his slipper at the judge and also abused him. Reportedly, the slipper did not hit the judge.

Gaikwad who is already facing a murder charge is now, booked in a new case under IPC sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace).
