Auraiya: A 15-year-old boy died after his father allegedly tied him to a pillar and beat him with a bamboo stick following a dispute over stolen money in Uttar Pradesh’s Auraiya district, police said. The accused, identified as Ummed Singh, was arrested on September 24, three days after the incident.
The incident took place on September 21 in Purva Somvanshi village under the Sahar police station area. According to police, the teenager, identified as Rishu alias Ishu, was at home with his younger sister when his father arrived and allegedly assaulted him.
Police said a rope and the bamboo stick allegedly used in the assault were later recovered at the instance of the accused. The case was registered on the complaint of the victim’s elder brother, Neeraj.
Boy allegedly tied to pillar and assaulted
According to the complaint, Neeraj and his elder sister had gone to attend a Ganesh Puja and kirtan programme in the village on September 21. Rishu and his younger sister remained at home.
Police said Ummed Singh returned to the house and became angry over complaints concerning Rishu, including an issue related to stolen money. The police alleged that Singh, who was under the influence of alcohol at the time, tied his son to a pillar with a rope.
He then allegedly beat the teenager with a bamboo stick, causing fatal injuries. After the assault, Singh allegedly placed his son’s body on a cot and fled from the house.
The incident came to light after information about the boy’s condition reached the family and authorities. Police took custody of the body and completed the required inquest proceedings before sending it for a post-mortem examination.
Police launch search for accused
Following the complaint lodged by Neeraj, Sahar police registered a case against Ummed Singh. Police subsequently formed three teams to trace the accused.
The search continued for three days before Singh was arrested on September 24. Police said the accused was taken into custody and questioned about the circumstances surrounding his son’s death.
During interrogation, Singh allegedly told police that he had repeatedly quarrelled with Rishu over allegations concerning stolen money. According to the police account, he admitted that he had tied the teenager to a pillar on the night of September 21 and assaulted him with a bamboo stick, resulting in his death.
The rope and bamboo stick allegedly used during the assault were recovered based on information provided by the accused, police said.
Accused sent to jail
After his arrest, Ummed Singh was sent to jail, while further legal proceedings are underway.
The investigation will establish the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death and the allegations made in the complaint. The police account of the assault and the accused’s alleged statements remain part of the investigation and legal process.
The case has drawn attention to the circumstances in which the teenager was allegedly assaulted inside his home. Police are continuing the legal proceedings following the arrest and recovery of the items allegedly used in the incident.
Investigation continues
The September 21 incident has been registered as a criminal case following the complaint by the boy’s elder brother. The post-mortem examination was ordered after police took custody of the body, while the recovery of the rope and bamboo stick forms part of the investigation.
As the case proceeds, the evidence collected by investigators, post-mortem findings and statements recorded during the investigation will be considered as part of the legal process.
The arrest of Ummed Singh does not by itself establish guilt. The allegations will be subject to further investigation and proceedings before the appropriate court.
