Pawan Kumar’s modest home is now abuzz with jubilation as well-wishers flock to congratulate him. Beyond the tricolour adorning the facade lies a narrow passage leading to a humble courtyard. Amidst the thatched cowshed, where half a dozen cattle seek respite from the summer heat, stands the gathering of those eager to meet the soon-to-be IAS officer.
Hailing from a nondescript village in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, Pawan Kumar has achieved his UPSC dream, securing the commendable rank of AIR 239 in the civil services examination.
Born into the family of a poor farmer, Pawan spent his formative years in a mud house, grappling with extreme poverty under an asbestos roof. Yet, amidst adversity, he nurtured a singular ambition – to become an IAS officer and serve his village, Raghunathpur.
His father, Mukesh Kumar, hoped for any job that could sustain their household. However, Pawan remained steadfast in his aspiration, unwavering in his pursuit of academic excellence.
“He wanted to be an IAS officer since childhood. I often asked him to get a part-time job. But he used to tell me not to disturb him. He has had no hobby apart from studying,” shared his father.
Undeterred by initial setbacks, Pawan confronted the formidable UPSC exam thrice until he emerged victorious in his third attempt, showcasing his unwavering determination and resilience.
With the family relying on a modest four-bigha agricultural plot and a thatched kutcha, Pawan’s father toiled as a laborer to make ends meet. Witnessing the hardships, Pawan resolved to uplift his family from poverty, recognizing education as the sole pathway to transformation.
According to his sister, Goldie, Pawan dedicated himself to studying whenever he was at home, displaying an unparalleled commitment to his goal.
Pawan Kumar’s journey stands as a testament to the power of perseverance and the transformative potential of education, inspiring generations to come.
