Agra: Earlier this week, a tragic incident unfolded on the Agra-Delhi national highway when a speeding truck collided with around 20 vehicles, resulting in the death of three individuals, including Dharmendra Kumar Gupta, a 46-year-old businessman from Agra. The critically injured victim, who was a milk trader returning home from Mathura on his motorcycle, could have potentially survived had it not been for the shocking actions of bystanders.

A video circulating on social media has captured the disturbing scene where a crowd is seen allegedly looting Rs 1.5 lakh in cash from Dharmendra, who was carrying the money in a bag. In the 47-second video, bystanders at the accident site can be heard debating whether to hand over the money to the police, keep it for themselves, or assist the injured man. Some individuals are seen callously stuffing their bags with the cash, uttering phrases like ‘utha lo, paisa utha lo’ (take the money first).

Dharmendra’s brother, Mahendra, expressed dismay, stating that when they went searching for Dharmendra, they found his damaged bike with the bag lying open nearby, devoid of any money. His wallet was also missing. The family subsequently contacted the police and learned that Dharmendra had been taken to the hospital, where he was declared dead. Mahendra emphasized that while it would have been acceptable if those who took the money also helped him receive treatment, they instead prioritized looting.

DCP Suraj Kumar Rai stated that the police have taken cognizance of the video, and an FIR will be registered based on the complaint filed by the family members of the deceased. This incident is reminiscent of a similar situation on December 27 last year, where a crowd took advantage of a pile-up on the national highway connecting Agra with Firozabad, looting birds worth Rs 2.5 lakh from a damaged chicken-laden loader as the distressed driver pleaded for help.
