By breaking through the window bars, two undertrials—among whom there are 47 cases pending against him—escaped from the lock-up on a courthouse property here, according to police on Saturday.
Three police officers have been suspended in response to the incident, and a case was filed against both of the accused late on Friday night.
Four teams have been sent out to find them, according to Ghule Sushil Chandrabhan, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP).
Ankit Yadav and Sachin Saini were summoned to the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) and Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate III’s court on Friday morning, according to Sub-Inspector (SI) Virendra Kumar.
A total of 55 prisoners had come with them to appear before the court. After everyone’s appearance, the count started at 5.30 pm before sending the prisoners back to the jail.
According to the SI, Ankit and Sachin’s names were repeatedly called by the police, but to no effect. Both of the gangsters were reported missing when the police officers assigned to their protection arrived at the lock-up. The lock-up’s iron window had two of its rods broken.
Following receipt of the information, the SSP and SP (City) Rahul Bhati arrived at the location accompanied by law enforcement.
According to SSP Chandrabhan, departmental action has been ordered against the three police officers involved in the case, and they have been suspended.
Ankit Yadav was the subject of 47 cases, including one under the Gangsters Act, according to the police. Sachin Saini is also the subject of a Gangsters Act case.
