According to police, a man’s addiction to online gaming drove him to kill his mother in order to collect the life insurance policy payout and pay off his massive debt. The shocking incident occurred in Fatehpur, Uttar Pradesh, where the accused, Himanshu, allegedly killed his mother in order to obtain an insurance payout of ₹ 50 lakh, and disposed of her body by the Yamuna river’s edge.
According to the police, the accused had a gaming addiction to a well-known app. He was so addicted that he had to borrow money to keep playing after suffering repeated losses. He eventually realized how much he owed—nearly Rs. 4 lakh. The issue at hand was how to reimburse creditors. A brutal scheme was revealed.
According to the police, Himanshu stole the jewelry from his paternal aunt and used the money to purchase life insurance policies for his parents, each costing ₹ 50 lakh. Police claimed that shortly after, while his father was away, he fatally choked his mother Prabha. To dispose of the body, he drove his tractor to the Yamuna river bank and placed it in a jute bag.
After visiting the Chitrakoot temple, Himanshu’s father Roshan Singh returned home to find his wife and son gone. After making some inquiries, he went to his brother’s house in the same neighborhood. Nobody knew Prabha’s location. Subsequently, a neighbor reported seeing Himanshu on the tractor close to the river.
Police were informed and the body recovered from near Yamuna. Himanshu was arrested soon after. His questioning revealed the shocking plot a son hatched to murder his mother so that he could clear his debt. “The son was on the run after murdering his mother. We caught him and unearthed the sinister crime,” senior police officer Vijay Shankar Mishra said.
