Lucknow: On Thursday, a man from Uttar Pradesh was spotted in public carrying his wife’s severed head. Images captured by onlookers revealed Anil, a Barabanki mason, clutching a knife in one hand and the head in another.
Many commuters saw the graphic scene before Anil was taken into custody.
Although they had been living apart for eight years, he was married to the victim. According to the police, he beheaded her because he thought she was having an extramarital affair. They are parents to two kids.
In a related incident that was reported on Wednesday, a 40-year-old West Bengali man was spotted next to a bus stop holding his wife’s severed head. The accused, Goutam Guchhait, had decapitated his spouse due to issues with family.
Videos shot by locals showed him with the head in one hand and a sickle in another. He was heard making vague remarks at the crowd that had gathered around him. Cops arrived an hour later and arrested him.
His family had in 2021 claimed he was mentally unstable after he jumped into a lion’s enclosure at the Alipore Zoo in Kolkata.
