Nainital: In a horrific accident, eight people aboard a vehicle were killed after the bus they were traveling in plunged into a gorge in the Betalghat area of Nainital district on Monday night.
Of the eight, seven were Nepali citizens, said officials. Police stated that an immediate rescue operation was launched by the SDRF and villagers, but it took more time as it was dark and the gorge was deep.
The deceased were workers employed on the Jal Jeevan Mission project in Unchakot village in Betalghat. After completing their work, the Nepalese workers hired a vehicle to return to their homes in Tanakpur in Champawat district. Sources said that around 10:30 pm, the driver, Rajendra Kumar, 38, lost control of the vehicle and it plunged into a 200-meter gorge.
Seven Nepali citizens and the driver died on the spot. The deceased are Uday Ram Chaudhary, 55, Tilak Ram Chaudhary, 45, Ram Chaudhary, 49, Vinod Chaudhary, 38, Vish Ram, 50, Dheeraj, 45, Gopal, 60, and Anant Ram Chaudhary, 40. Chhotu Chaudhary and Shanti Chaudhary, Nepali citizens, sustained injuries.
