Jairam Ramesh, Congress general secretary, in a press conference stated that the name of the prime ministerial candidate would be revealed within three days of the election results, slated for June 4. With polling spanning seven phases and concluding on June 1, Ramesh expressed confidence in the INDIA bloc’s victory, drawing parallels to the Congress-led UPA’s victory in 2004, despite the BJP’s ‘India Shining’ campaign.

Referring to the swift selection of Dr. Manmohan Singh as PM in 2004, Ramesh said that this time, the announcement would be even quicker, ensuring stable governance under one leader for the entire tenure.

He underscored that the prime ministerial candidate would be democratically chosen by the INDIA bloc members, emphasizing the importance of party-centric democracy over personality-based politics.

As Haryana gears up for polling across all 10 seats and Punjab prepares for elections on its 13 seats along with Chandigarh on June 1, Ramesh reiterated the bloc’s anticipated victory, citing strong performance across various regions.

Highlighting a shift in Prime Minister Modi’s rhetoric post-April 19, Ramesh accused him of indulging in communal politics, sidelining crucial issues such as development, youth welfare, and agricultural reforms.
