A 40-year-old woman who sustained severe head injuries after falling from a motorcycle near Thiruverumbur has died while undergoing treatment, police said.

The deceased has been identified as S Malar, a resident of Keelavadikulam near Thiruverumbur.

Stray dog caused sudden braking

According to the Thiruverumbur police, the accident occurred on February 10 when Malar was riding pillion on a motorcycle driven by her 20-year-old son, S Sakthivel. The two were travelling along the Murungapettai–Pathalapettai road and had nearly reached the Chettiyarpettai crematorium when a stray dog suddenly darted across the road.

In an attempt to avoid hitting the animal, Sakthivel reportedly applied the brakes abruptly. Malar lost her balance and fell onto the road, suffering critical head injuries.

She was immediately rushed to the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital for treatment and had been under intensive care since the incident.

Succumbed after days in intensive care

Despite medical efforts, her condition worsened on Saturday evening and she died without responding to treatment.

Thiruverumbur police have registered a case and are continuing further investigation.

The incident has once again highlighted the risks posed by stray animals on highways and the need for enhanced road safety measures to prevent such tragedies.
