A 48-year-old woman Special Sub-Inspector (SSI), V. Kamatchi, passed away in the early hours of Wednesday while resting at the Belukkurichi police station in Namakkal district. Officials suspect a cardiac arrest as the cause of death.
According to Namakkal Superintendent of Police S. Rajesh Kannan, Kamatchi had returned to the station around 2 a.m. after completing night patrol duties. She went to rest in the designated room at the station.
When fellow officers tried to reach her in the morning, they found the door locked from inside. Receiving no response to their knocks, they forced the door open and discovered her unresponsive.
Her body was shifted to the Rasipuram Government Hospital for autopsy. Police have launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of death.
