A woman from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district, who had sustained severe burn injuries earlier this month, died on Friday while undergoing treatment at Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, police said.

The incident had taken place on February 12 at Suploh village in Mandi district. Following the incident, police registered a case and arrested her husband, Thakur Das, who is currently in judicial custody.

Statement before magistrate

Police stated that after the victim was declared medically fit, her statement was recorded on February 14 by a Judicial Magistrate, First Class, in Chandigarh. In her statement, she reportedly held herself responsible for the incident.

Authorities confirmed that she succumbed to her injuries during treatment at PGIMER. A post-mortem examination is being conducted as per legal procedure.

Investigation continues

Initially, the woman was admitted to the zonal hospital in Mandi and later shifted to Nerchowk Medical College. As her condition worsened, she was referred to PGIMER for advanced care.

Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar said a thorough and impartial investigation into all aspects of the case is underway and further legal action will depend on the evidence collected.

Meanwhile, the victim’s father, Krishan Chand, submitted a complaint to the district administration alleging that his daughter had suffered burn injuries under suspicious circumstances. Police said the complaint has been taken on record and is being examined as part of the ongoing probe.
