A 25-year-old Air India pilot, Srishti Tuli, was found dead in her rented flat in Mumbai’s Andheri area on Monday, with police ruling it as a suspected suicide. Her boyfriend, Aditya Pandit (27), was arrested on Tuesday following a complaint by Tuli’s family.
Tuli’s body was discovered in her Kanakia Rainforest apartment, where she had allegedly hanged herself with a data cable. No suicide note was recovered. Police stated that Tuli had called Pandit early Monday, threatening to take her own life. Pandit, en route to Delhi by road, rushed back to Mumbai and found her flat locked. With the help of a key maker, he entered to find her lifeless. She was declared dead at SevenHills Hospital.
Tuli’s uncle alleged that Pandit harassed and publicly humiliated her. He also reportedly pressured her to give up non-vegetarian food. The two had met during a commercial pilot course in Delhi two years ago and started dating soon after.
Pandit has been charged under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for abetment of suicide. He was presented in court and remanded to police custody until November 29.
Originally from Uttar Pradesh, Tuli had been living in Mumbai since June last year. The case has highlighted the emotional struggles faced by young professionals, prompting calls for greater mental health awareness.
