In a tragic incident reported from Telangana’s Vikarabad district, a 27-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide after her partner distanced himself following his appointment to a government job. The woman’s body was recovered from railway tracks near the Kothagadi area, police said.
Victim identified as private school teacher
The deceased has been identified as Kommani Sitaramma, a private school teacher by profession. According to police and family members, she was in a relationship with Gaddam Manikya, a resident of a nearby village, for several years.
Recently, Manikya secured a job as a teacher in a state government-run school. Family members alleged that after getting the job, he began avoiding Sitaramma and expressed reluctance to continue the relationship.
Allegations of dowry pressure
Relatives of the deceased claimed that Manikya wanted to marry someone who could offer a substantial dowry and started distancing himself from Sitaramma for this reason. Distressed by the sudden change in his behaviour, Sitaramma reportedly confronted him and sought clarity about their future.
Police said she even visited his house to speak to him, where a minor argument took place. Following the confrontation, she was said to be deeply upset and mentally disturbed.
Body found near railway tracks
On the day of the incident, Sitaramma reportedly got down from a bus and was seen speaking to someone over the phone before taking the extreme step. Her body was later found on the railway tracks near Kothagadi.
Police from Vikarabad Police rushed to the spot and shifted the body for post-mortem examination.
Case registered, probe underway
A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances leading to her death. Police said statements from family members and others close to the deceased are being recorded.
The incident has once again brought attention to issues related to emotional exploitation, dowry expectations and the mental health challenges faced by young women.
