YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia Faces FIR Over Controversial Remarks on Comedy Show
Mumbai: A legal complaint has been lodged against YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia and several comedians over controversial remarks made on comedian Samay Raina’s show, “India’s Got Latent.”
Advocates Ashish Ray and Pankaj Mishra have approached Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phalsankar and the state women’s commission, arguing that the statements were disrespectful towards women and warranted legal action.
A viral clip from the show features Allahbadia posing an offensive question about parents’ intimacy, sparking widespread outrage. The complaint terms the remarks vulgar and inappropriate, stating they could negatively influence young audiences.
The lawyers urged police to file an FIR under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, emphasizing that the comedians used derogatory language for popularity and profit. Additionally, commentator Rahul Easwar filed a separate complaint under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and IT Act, citing the promotion of explicit content without age restrictions.
BJP leader Nilotpal Mrinal Pandey also lodged a complaint with Khar Police, submitting video evidence.
Reacting to the controversy, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis acknowledged the issue, stating, “Freedom of speech has its limits; action will be taken if lines are crossed.”
Amid backlash, Allahbadia issued a public apology, admitting, “Comedy is not my forte. My comment wasn’t funny, and I sincerely apologize.”
