Days after the US deported over 100 undocumented Indian immigrants, a viral video has surfaced, allegedly showing a group of Indians hiding in Panama’s jungles while attempting illegal entry into America.

The footage, widely circulated online, captures men, women, and children camping in forest clearings under heavy rain. Some are seen in raincoats, while others sit in mud, braving harsh conditions. Women with infants appear huddled under makeshift shelters, highlighting the perils of the perilous journey.

The dangerous ‘donkey route’

The ‘donkey route’ refers to an illegal and treacherous pathway migrants use to cross international borders. According to Indian Express, it is a widely exploited method for entering nations like the US and UK without proper documentation.

104 Indians deported

A US military aircraft carrying 104 deportees arrived in Amritsar, marking the first large-scale expulsion under the Trump administration’s recent crackdown. Among them were 33 individuals each from Haryana and Gujarat, 30 from Punjab, and a few from other states. The deportees included 19 women and 13 minors, some as young as four years old.

Indian government’s response

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar addressed Parliament, confirming that US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has followed standard procedures since 2012. He assured that deportees receive essential care during transit, and women and children are not restrained.
