KALABURAGI: The case regarding inmates at the Kalaburagi Central Jail receiving VIP treatment has been transferred to the Central Crime Branch (CCB) for further investigation. This decision follows a report aired by Public TV detailing the conditions inside the jail.
In response to the revelations, the police commissioner led a raid that resulted in the seizure of two mobile phones, cigarettes, and gutka packets from several inmates. Additionally, cases have been filed against seven inmates, including Sagar, Vishal, and Sonu, for circulating video content related to the activities within the jail.
The Prisons Department is conducting its internal inquiry into the situation. Prisons Department SP Yashodha Vantagodi, the investigating officer, visited the Kalaburagi Central Prison on Friday. Speaking to the media, she stated, “A detailed investigation will be carried out into whatever was shown in the media. A report will be submitted, and the DIG will take further action. The government will decide if any officers have to be transferred.”
During her visit, SP Vantagodi also gathered information about allegations of honeytraps and blackmail involving inmate Zulfikar and his associates. Reports indicate that inmate Sagar was involved in making video calls as part of a honeytrap scheme, demanding ₹50,000 to cover it up and reportedly blackmailing jail staff as well.
