Bagalakote: A total of Rs 2.10 Crore in cash, suspicious and undocumented, has been seized from the Hunnur checkpost set up in Jamakhandi Constituency limits, said Deputy commissioner and District election Officer P. Sunil Kumar.
An unaccounted amount of approximately Rs 2.10 Crore was seized when members of a working statistical surveyist team were conducting an inspection at Hunnur Checkpost in Jamakhandi when a suspicious vehicle was stopped and checked.
The owners of the money found at the check ost belonged to a Credit Co-operative Society, who orally informed that money was being taken to different branches of the bank.
As the documents provided were not considered to be perfect, they were given more opportunity to furnish the documents and the said amount was confiscated and deposited in the Government treasury at Jamakhandi from the office of the Returning Officer. A report has been submitted to the district-level cash forfeiture relief committee along with the panchanama and the said committee will look into the matter and take action.
