Kasaragod: The first honorary doctorate from the Central University of Kerala has been conferred on indian sports icon P. T. Usha on Monday April 10.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. H. Venkateshwarlu conferred the honorary doctorate at a function held at Sabarmati Auditorium in Periya Campus.
Usha became emotional as he narrated the anguish of missing out on a medal at the Los Angeles Olympics by a margin of one-hundredth of a second.
I fought to win an Olympic medal. It has the prayers of millions of people. Once you work towards the goal it becomes a reality. The first thing you need is to trust them, she said. Usha explained the activities and achievements of the school in identifying and nurturing sports talent.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. H. Venkateshwarlu said, “Usha is the pride of the nation. It is the duty of the university to honour those who have set an example for the nation. PT Usha’s achievement motivates students,” he added.
