Collector Bans Heavy Vehicles on Ghat Route Between Goa and Belagavi

Kolhapur Collector Bans Heavy Vehicles On Tillari Ghat Route Between Goa And Belagavi

The Collector of Kolhapur has imposed an immediate ban on heavy vehicles travelling between Goa and Belagavi via Tillari Ghat until October 31. This decision comes in light of annual reports of landslides, heavy rains, and accidents in the region.

The ban includes the installation of low-height frames and signboards prohibiting entry for heavy and multi-axle vehicles at the ghat’s entry points. Heavy vehicles from other regions of Maharashtra, including Belagavi, will need to use alternative routes such as Chorla, Anmod, or Amboli.

The narrow and treacherous nature of Tillari Ghat, marked by sharp turns and elevation changes, has been a frequent site of accidents and vehicle blockages, complicating rescue operations. Despite being the shortest route indicated by navigation apps, drivers often face challenges navigating the ghat, leading to safety concerns.
