Dharwad: Dalit community people who have availed benefits of reservation and flourished in their life, must come forward to extend help to their brethren who are still away from the mainstream of life, said District In-charge Minister Vinay Kulkarni.
Speaking after inaugurating Dalit Vachanakara Jayanti Utsav in Dharwad on Friday, Kulkarni said Dalit Vachanakaras of 12th century such as Madar Channayya, Madar Dhoolayya, Dohar Kakkayya, Samagar Haralayya and Urilingapeddi among others’ contribution to the society was great.
“We must cherish their ideals and lead a humble and fruitful life. Our India has given the message of peace and oneness to the world. The Vachanas which have the meaning of life in them have to be read by all and followed,” he said.
Markandeya Doddamani, Mohan Nagammanavar, Lakshman Bakkayi delivered special lectures on the occasion.
Navalgund MLA N H Konareddy presided over.
