Permission to publish ads mandatory 48 hours before polling

Dharawad: Deputy Commissioner Gurudatta Hegde, who is also the District Electoral Officer, stated in a release that it is mandatory for the concerned candidate or party to obtain a certificate from the Media Certification Committee to publish an advertisement in any print media 48 hours before the expiry of the stipulated period for voting.

As per the Representation of the People Act, certain special rules are in force 48 hours before the expiry of the stipulated period for voting. It is mandatory to obtain permission from the Media Certification Committee for advertisements published in an earlier period of 48 hours.

Applications submitted before the Media Certification Committee in connection with the election campaign will be disposed of in a time-bound manner on a priority basis, he said.
