Empowering the underprivileged: Santhosh Lad unveils pro-people schemes

Dharwad: The state government has placed a strong emphasis on improving the quality of life for the underprivileged and is striving to facilitate societal transformation through people-centric initiatives. Santhosh Lad, the Minister for Labor and District In-Charge, mentioned that the government is actively introducing novel programs such as Shakti Yojana, Anna Bhagya, Grihalakshmi, Grihajyothi, and Yuvanidhi.

Today, he addressed the inauguration event organized by the Hubballi Vidhyut Sarabaraju Company at the Srujana Rangamandira. Santhosh Lad spoke about the ambitious plan of the state government to implement the Gruhajyoti scheme, aiming to provide electricity connections. The state government has given top priority to fulfilling the promises made before the elections. They are implementing various schemes worth around 600 million rupees. They emphasized their commitment to executing plans and programs of all kinds that are essential for the welfare of the poor.

Young people, especially, need to engage in politics. Social and economic changes are achievable through youth. Political opportunities contribute to nurturing effective leadership. Political involvement is emphasized to cultivate a mindset of community service among the youth, he said.

He mentioned that the Grihajyothi initiative has garnered positive feedback within the Dharwad district. He urged HESCOM to effectively promote and inform the public about the scheme, enabling the remaining customers to also enroll in Grihajyothi. The minister noted that essential arrangements are being made to implement Grihalakshmi and Yuvanidhi schemes in the district.

According to MLA N.H. Konaraddy, the commitments made by the state government prior to the elections have been honored. He emphasized the importance of ensuring a smooth power supply to both farmers and consumers without causing any inconvenience. He further stressed the significance of effectively executing the Grihajyoti scheme. He urged HESCOM officials and employees to exhibit greater proactivity in promptly addressing issues as they arise.

Addressing the gathering, Mohammed Roshan, the Managing Director of HESCOM, expressed that the Grihajyothi initiative is witnessing a positive reception across seven districts managed by HESCOM. Notably, approximately 90 percent of customers in these seven districts and 80 percent in the Dharwad district have already enrolled in the scheme. Roshan disclosed that among around 5,40,000 RR numbers in the Dharwad district, a substantial 4,20,000 customers are reaping the benefits of the Grihajyothi scheme this August.

H.R. Kamadolli expressed his opinion that HESCOM symbolically handed out bills with zero amounts to different customers, a viewpoint that was conveyed by a customer.

Srikanth Sasalatti, the Director of HESCOM’s Technical Division, extended a warm welcome. Maya Raman, the senior announcer of Akashavani, introduced the program. S. Jagadish, the Executive Engineer, conveyed his greetings.

District Commissioner Gurudatta Hegde, HESCOM’s Financial Division Director Prakash Patil, Alert Squad Police Superintendent Shirakola Nayak, Chief Executive Engineer Ramesh L Bendigeri, were among the various representatives and officials present.

During the program, participants from HESCOM, including Deputy Chief Engineers Sharannamma Jangina, Executive Engineers M.T. Doddamani, M.M. Nadaf, Jayaprada Poojara, Assistant Executive Engineers Manjunath Tingarikar, Devaraj Hegde, and Assistant Executive Engineer Nagarjun P., along with HESCOM employees, consumer representatives, and members of electrical consumer forums, were present.

Short play performance: A group of HESCOM employees staged a short play titled ‘Zero Bill’ to create awareness among the public about the benefits of the state government’s Griha Jyothi scheme.
