Farmers urge all-party delegation to meet PM

Dharwad: After the Karnataka Vidyavardhaka Sangha joined the agitation along with the farmers of Nargund over implementation of the Kalasa Banduri Nala irrigation project the fight has been now shifted to Dharwad.

A round table meeting, organized at the Karnataka Vidyavardhaka Sangha hall, was attended by Minister for water resources M B Patil, Jaya Mrutyunjaya Swami of Kudalasangama, former Union minister Babagouda Patil, MLAs Vinay Kulkarni and NH Konaraddi, former MP Manjunath Kunnur, former MLC Mohan Limbikai, former MLA Seema Masuti, and pontiffs of various Veerashaiva mutts of North Karnataka who discussed the intricacies of the issue at length.

The meeting urged the state government to take an all-party delegation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and ask him to intervene in settling the dispute between Karnataka and Goa out of the water disputes tribunal.

The meeting concluded with the deadline for the government to take the delegation to the PM, set for August 15.

Farmers had launched their agitation at Nargund in Gadag district on July 16. They assembled in Dharwad on Saturday and staged a dharna along with the members of various Dharwad-based organizations. Jayamrutyunjaya Swami, Siddalinga Swami of Tontadarya Mutt, Mallikarjun Swami of Murugha Mutt and Basavaraj Devaru of Mansur, among others, were present.
