Dharwad: The officials deployed on election duty, the Income Tax officers conducted a raid on an apartment in Narayanapura second cross and found bundles of cash stacked in an almirah.

The officials conducted a raid on flat number 303 in Arrna Residency based on a tip  that liquor was stored in that flat, but when the officials searched the property, they did not find liquor bottles but bundles of cash stacked in an almirah.

The amount could be around Rs 18 crore, the officials suspect. As the officials are counting the currency with a single machine, the counting has not been completed.

The flat belongs to Basavaraj Dattunavar, who is said to be an accountant, and it is said that a contractor might have stored the amount to distribute it to voters.

Speaking to NewsKarnataka, Deputy Commissioner Divya Prabhu said that the counting of money is still going on, the IT department officials will complete the procedure, and the administration will be able to release an official statement then. She refused to reveal more information, as the process of seizing the money is going on, and revealing information is not appropriate and too early, she said.
