Indian Society of Agronomy Gold Medal to UAS VC Dr. Biradar

Dharwad: The Vice Chancellor of University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), Dharwad Dr. D P Biradar has received the prestigious Indian Society of Agronomy (ISA) Gold Medal in recognition of his outstanding contributions to Agronomy. The award was received by him in the 4thInternational Agronomy Congress on November 22, 2016 at New Delhi.

Dr. Biradar has contributed immensely in the field of the site specific nutrient ecosystem, cropping and farming system models, technologies for transplanted rice ecosystem, organic farming, management aspects of transgenic cotton, decision support system and also as “Nutrient Expert” for maize and wheat.

Dr. Biradar is the recipient of several national and international awards/distinctions viz., Dewang Mehta Business School Award for Outstanding Contribution to Education (2014); Outstanding Achievement Award (2013) and Leadership Award (2011) from Society for Applied Biotechnology; Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam National Award (2008); Sir C V Raman Award for Young Scientist from Government of Karnataka (2004); and also received three Incentive Awards from University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad for bringing highest amount of external funding for the research projects worth of Rs 300 Lakh.  He is a Fellow of Society for Plant Research (2012); Society for Applied Biotechnology (2010); International Benevolent Research Forum (2009); Indian Society of Agronomy (2009); National Academy of Biological Sciences (2007) and National Environmental Science Academy (2005). He also worked as a Member of QRT for CICR and AICCIP, Nagpur.  Presently, he is serving as President of Cotton Research and Development Association and Executive Council Member of Indian Society of Agricultural Information Technology and in various committees of ICAR and PPV&FRA.

As Vice Chancellor, Dr. Biradar has taken several new research and academic initiatives like Study Abroad Programme, Post Doctoral Programmes and Establishment of International Centre for Agricultural Development for the development of institutions and improvement of the agricultural education system. UAS, Dharwad has won ICAR Sardar Patel Outstanding Institution Award (2015) because of these initiatives and able leadership.
