Belagavi: According to sources, farmers from throughout the State will gather in Belagavi on December 12, one day before the State legislature’s winter session in the border area. The convention is being conducted to put pressure on the government to revoke amendments to the APMC Act and the Karnataka Land Reforms Act, increase paddy procurement centres, and compensate farmers for crop losses caused by recent heavy rains.
Farmers are also requesting that during the session, elected representatives discuss issues related to farmer welfare.
Yashwanth, Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha leader and State Core Committee member of Samyukt Kisan Morcha informed that farmers across the state are in distress. “The recent rains have caused crop damage, milk unions have cut procurement prices, and the government has not opened paddy procurement centres across the State.”
He urged that all of these issues must be addressed by the government, as well as amendments to the APMC Act and the Karnataka Land Reforms Act.
