Belagavi City Police Commissioner Bhushan Gulabrao Borase announced that the probe into the recent incident involving copies of the Quran being set ablaze in Santi Bastawada village has been transferred to the Central Investigation Department (CID) due to the sensitive nature of the case.
Addressing the media, the Commissioner confirmed that city police are actively cooperating with CID officers to identify the culprits and ensure strict legal action is taken.
On May 12, worshippers found copies of the Quran missing when they arrived at the mosque under construction in Santi Bastawada village for morning prayers. Local residents later discovered that the holy books had been burned near the mosque premises.
The incident sparked a large protest at Chennamma Circle in Belagavi on May 16, where community members condemned the act and demanded swift arrest of those responsible
