Belagavi: Tense situation prevailed after a goods vehicle transporting cattle meat was set ablaze by miscreants on Sunday evening on Kanabargi Road here.
According to sources, the meat was being illegally transported to a processing unit at Auto Nagar here from Gokak. It is said that five to six youth stopped the vehicle, poured kerosene over it and set it on fire charring the front portion of the Tata Ace vehicle.
As soon as the incident was reported, Police Commissioner T G Krishna Bhat, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime&Traffic) Amarnath Reddy and other senior officials visited the spot. Fire and Emergency Service personnel too rushed there and doused the fire. The police said they were yet to trace the miscreants and ascertain the reason behind the act.
