Vijayapura: The world-famous Mausoleum Gol Gumbaz may soon get a facelift. as the Archeological Survey of India (ASI) has sought funds to restore the heritage structure, which has developed cracks near its iconic dome.
It is said that the officials of the ASI have submitted a report and sought Rs one crore in April 2019 after inspecting the Mausoleum. The team prepared a detailed report, talking about the problems and the kind of restoration work required. They are now hopeful that the funds would be released.
Sources said that the ASI has decided not to use any modern materials or machines during the restoration works because they want to maintain the novelty of the structure. With this, the restoration work will be done using the original material that was used to build the actual structure. With the entire restoration work planned to be executed manually, the ASI also plans to carry on the work in such a way that it does not cause any inconvenience to the tourists and visitors.
The dome of the Gol Gumbaz is considered to be one of the largest in India and second largest in the world. It was built by Mohammed Adil Shah in the 17th century.
