Mangaluru: Yakshagana, as an art form has always narrated the mythological episodes. However, a group of doctors from Mangaluru have diversified the context and earlier this year, they staged a Yakshagana episode named ‘Arbudasura Garvabhanga’, which loosely translates into ‘conquering cancer’.
The chapter aimed at creating awareness about cancer. The event was a huge success and now, the medicos will be back on stage to perform the same episode on June 9, at Nandaneshwara temple in Panambur from 6 pm to 9 pm on Sunday.
It was on February 4 that the doctors first staged the show on the World Cancer Day, at Kadri Park and on popular demand, the show will be staged again. The group feels that there is a need to talk about the dreaded disease to people through a medium that appeals to all. The doctors, through their act will talk about Cancer and how it can be cured, if diagnosed at an early stage. The show will also urge people to stop using tobacco and tobacco product.
Naguva Nagisuva Geleyaru, the Mangalore chapter of IMA, Yakshanandana and PV Aithal English Yakshagana Balaga are jointly organising the performance.
