Sindgi Bypoll To Be Held On Oct 30 In Vijayapura

Vijayapura: After a long wait, the Election Commissioner of India (ECI) finally announced the dates for the bypoll election of Sindgi Constituency on Tuesday September 28.

The bypoll election became inevitable after the death of M. C. Managuli who was the MLA of Sindgi. On January 28, Managuli died in a private hospital in Bengaluru due to post-Covid related complications.

Informing about the poll dates and others details, Deputy Commissioner P. Sunil Kumar said, “as per the ECI, notification for the polls issued on October 1, last date for filing of nomination is October 10, and scrutiny of the nomination papers will be held on October 11.  Last date for withdrawal of nominations is October 13 and election will be held on October 30 while counting will be held on November 2. The counting will be held at R. D. Patil College in Sindgi town.

While Assistant Commissioner Indi has been appointed as Returning Officer, and Tahsildar, Sindgi will be his deputy.

Informing about the total number of voters, he said that the constituency has 234309 voters, of them 120949 male, 113327 female and 33 others.

Since EVMs will be used in the election, a total of 696 EVMs and 686 VVPATs have been stored in the strong room already.

About the officials required for polling duty, he said that tentatively, they need at least 2200 officials for polling duty.

They will be given training on election in Sindgi town. The Police Department will provide adequate police personnel for the polling duty.

Sunil Kumar said that in the last Assembly polls held in 2018, a total of 70.85 per cent voting was recorded in Sindgi while 59.92 per cent voting was recorded during the last Lok Sabha polls held in 2019.

He said that since the model code of conduct is already in place, it will remain effective in the entire district till the end of election.

With regard to allowing voting to Covid-infected persons, he said that they are waiting for the guidelines from ECI.
