Vijayapura: Following the increasing number of deaths due to head injuries in the district in road accidents, the District Police has taken a novel initiative to spread awareness on wearing of helmets. The short film that lasts for nearly  three minutes, has been prepared fully by the police personnel.

The film having the name Hell or Helmet ‘The Choice is Yours’ was released by Superintendent of Police H. D. Anand Kumar.

The short movie begins with the stills of local tourist hotspots world famous Gol Gumbaz and Shivagiri. Then starts the story where a middle-aged family man, who has a small family of three daughters, steps out of his house to buy groceries on his motorcycle. His wife cautions him to wear a helmet but he ignores and leaves for the market. While returning from the market he succumbs in an accident after sustaining severe head injuries. A school boy rushes to the house and informs the wife of the man about this accident. She rushes to the spot and is shocked to see her husband dead.

Then a youngster, from the accident spot, appeals to the viewers to mandatorily wear the helmet while riding motorcycle. Thereafter, M. Suresh, probationary Deputy SP, says that since he is commissioned to the service, he has witnessed many accidents. In 90 per cent of the cases people lose their lives only because of not wearing a helmet.

Another police officer K. C. Lakshminarayan, DSP Vijayapura, pointed out that, “The people are more concerned about the safety of their cell-phones than their life. People should also wear a helmet while riding the motorcycle similar to that of putting screen-guards and safety covers to their cell-phones.”

Lastly, SP Anand Kumar appeals to both rider and pillion to wear helmets while travelling on two-wheelers. “I seek cooperation from the people of the District for Helmet Abhiyan. This abhiyan has begun from January 1 and the helmet is mandatory from the first week of January.”

The short movie concludes with a title Hell or Helmet? – Choice is Yours!

SP Anand Kumar, pointed out that, “We came up with a short movie because these days most of the people, mainly youngsters spend maximum time on smart phones. I felt that the short movie is one of the best mediums to reach the younger generation quickly. I believe that it will motivate at least a few to wear helmets while riding motorcycles.”

“The main aim behind this initiative is to educate and create awareness among people about wearing helmets and make them aware of the value of their life. We have made it mandatory from January 1. We will not penalise from day one instead will warn a couple of times and then fine the violators. We are aiming to practice people-friendly policing in the region,” SP Anand Kumar added.

This short movie with a social message is being appreciated by many people.
