Vijayapura: When Sharanu Sabarad, one of the BJP functionaries of the City went on to participate in the polling process and naming the person of his choice as party’s official candidate for coming Assembly polls, he was excited as the party had given chance to workers like him to share their choice on the candidate.

Couple of days ago, the BJP conducted the exercise of secret voting where the party workers were given the chance to name the person of their choice in the form of voting.

The party had given the opportunity to executive body members of each Constituency to participate in the voting process.

“Around 800 members of the District participated in the voting to mention the name of the candidate of their choice. We were asked to select minimum one and maximum three names and mention their names in the vote,” he said.

Expressing happiness over the decision of the party to allow voting and thus taking the opinion of the party workers, Sabarad said that it is a good beginning to collect the views of the party workers.

Describing the decision of the BJP to select the candidate by collecting opinions of the party workers as a new milestone, BJP District Vice President Umesh Karjol said that the decision will boost morale of the party workers.

He said that collecting opinions of party workers will help the party gain more confidence.

Asserting that the party workers are the lifeblood of any political party, the BJP has given more powers to the party by allowing them to give their opinion in selecting the candidates for the coming polls, he said.

Since the party workers play a vital role forming the party and they also know the public pulse, their opinion in selecting the right candidates makes a great difference, he noted.

He informed that the all eight ballot boxes were sent to Bengaluru where the party leaders will sort out the votes and opinion gathered, and would be sent to the Core Committee that selects the final candidates.

The party leaders however admit that the decision on selection of the candidate may not be taken fully on the voters’ choice.

“Voting is one of the ways to collect the view on a candidate. However the party also looks at other factors such as internal survey reports, caste combination etc. However we are confident that, of the total candidates, at least some percent of the candidates would be selected as per the voters’ choice. This itself would prove that the workers also have their say in selection of the candidate,” said another functionary, Papusingh Rajput.
