Vijayapura: The famous Shri Pravad Basaveshwar temple of the city has been locked separately by two priests following a fight over the who shall perform the puja. A case has been registered at the Golagummata police station of the city.
According to the locals, two priests locked the temple door with two separate locks as a result of which neither could open the doors and offer puja. Hundreds of devotees who are arriving at the temple are returning disappointment as the temple door is locked.
According to the local police, Chinnakalimata and Nandi Kola families have puja rights in the temple, which works on a monthly rotation basis. The rights are handed over by one family to the other on a monthly basis.
“There is a confusion on who shall perform puja in the month of May. So the priests from both the families locked the temple door causing a problem for the devotees,” said police sources.
