Vijayapura: ‘Want all slaughter houses shut, save cows’

Vijayapura: Claiming that the BJP Government has saved over 30,000 cattle heads, mainly cows from going to the slaughter houses in the State and filed over 900 cases after enacting Prevention of Cattle Slaughter Act, Minister for Animal Husbandry Prabhu Chauhan has asserted that the objective of the BJP government is to completely shut down all the slaughter houses in the State.

Addressing mediapersons after inaugurating Gau Shala at Burnapur Village here, he said that the BJP wishes to  prevent the slaughtering of cows which is a holy animal for Hindus.

“We don’t want a single cow to go to the slaughter house as we wish to save the lives of the cattle,” he said.

The Minister said that during the recent Bakrid festival, the police have registered 64 FIRs and 58 persons arrested while over 700 cattle have been saved.

With regard to opening of Gau Shalas from the Government itself, he said that while 30 Gau Shalas have been proposed to be set up in the State, 20 are in the pipeline. The Deputy Commissioners have been directed to identify land for the setting up of Gau Shalas.

“In this regard, we have set up a new Gau Shalas here on ten acres of land. We have asked the officials to identify Gau Mala (land for grazing animals) where the Gau Shalas can be set up,” he said.

Earlier, the Minister also inaugurated the newly constructed polyclinic constructed at the cost of Rs. 2.11 Crore.

Chauhan said that Karnataka has become the first State in the country where a helpline number for the protection of cattle has been set up. Till now, over one lakh calls have been received by the Centre and over seventy per cent cases have been attended, he claimed. By dialing helpline number 1962, people can avail the benefit.

He said that the Government is also launching the Pashu Sanjivini Ambulance service for cattle. The farmers could call the ambulance to take service and medical treatment for their cattle.

About the vacant posts of veterinary doctors in the State, he said that while 1000 posts are vacant, recruitment process has started for 400 doctors to fill up the posts.

MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, BJP Leader, Vijugouda Patil, Ashok Allapur, Umesh Karjol, DC Vijaymahantesh Danammanavar, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Rahul Shinde and other officials were present.
