Bengaluru: Oyo rooms may be wading through some troubled times, but on Valentine’s Day, the bookings reportedly shot up by 90.58 per cent.

According to the reports, national capital Delhi has been ranked at the top while the ‘Silicon City’ of Bengaluru stands at second slot for the maximum number of hotel room bookings on V-day. The Oyo Rooms business is said to have doubled in just one day.

As per the statistics revealed by the Oyo Rooms, just on February 14, the hotel room bookings have reached a whopping 90.58 percent, The numbers are expected to be higher if the last minute bookings are taken into consideration. While tourists also book rooms here, the percentage of lovers booking the room is higher, said sources.

Speaking to Business Insider, COO, OYO Hotels and Homes-India and South Asia, Gaurav Ajmera has said that the couple accounted for the maximum share of booking on February 14, followed by families and group of friends. He said that apart from these solo bookings were also done to celebrate the long weekend.

“Another fun fact is that a guest reserved a stay with OYO for Valentine’s Day as early as 24th August 2019”, said Ajmera.

According to the reports in Business Insider, OYO became the ‘V-Day favourite’ in the year 2016, when it had made a statement saying that it would allow ‘unmarried couples’ to book rooms in its hotel chain, amid the chaos by some of the activists threatening that if unmarried couples were spotted together, then they would marry them off.

Due to such inconveniences, the unmarried couples were in a difficult situation to find hotel rooms. OYO made sure to launch a service through their app called “Relationship Mode”, which made the couples find hotel rooms, conveniently.

They also started a hashtag campaign during the V-Day like “#StayInLove”, “#NoRoomForHate”, “#ValentinesTogetherAlone”, and “#CheckInForLove”. This campaign was not only launched in India but also in countries like the UAE, Malaysia and several others.

As per the OYO’s Love Index Report, the campaigns paid off with a rise in hotel room bookings reaching 112 percent.
