143 new Covid-19 cases take Karnataka’s tally to 1,605

Bengaluru: Karnataka has registered 143 new Covid-19 cases, raising the state’s tally to 1,605, according to an official, here on Thursday. “New cases reported from 5 p.m. Wednesday to 5 p.m. Thursday are 143,” said a health official.

The tally included 992 active, 571 discharged cases and 41 deaths.

In the past 24 hours, 15 patients were discharged, including six in Bagalkote, five in Davangere and three in Dakshina Kannada.

Meanwhile, the number of cases spiked in Mandya, Dakshina Kannada, Belagavi, Raichur, Dharwad, Udupi, Ballari, Bengaluru Urban and Hassan.

Of the new cases, Mandya contributed 33, followed by Udupi (26), Hassan (13), Ballari (11), Uttara Kannada (9), Belagavi and Bengaluru Urban (8 each), Dakshina Kannada and Shivamogga (6 each), Dharwad and Raichur (5 each), Davangere (3), Chikkaballapura, Kolar and Gadag (2 each) and Vijayapura, Tumkur, Udupi and Mysuru (1 each).

Nowadays, most people in the state are contracting coronavirus through inter-state travel. Among the new cases, 86 are men and 57 women.

Bengaluru Urban has so far seen nine deaths, followed by Kalaburagi (7), Dakshina Kannada (5) and Davangere and Vijayapura (4 each), and remaining from other districts.

Of 1,462 cases, 10 per cent were senior citizens, 63 per cent men and 37 per cent women. The state’s patient discharge rate is 36 per cent.
