Bengaluru: The sixth pay commission, led by former IAS officer M R Srinivasa Murthy is likely to recommend a hike in the salaries of the state government employees, in the report being submitted to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah today (on January 31).
Commission President M R Srinivasa Murthy would meet CM Siddaramaiah at his administrative residence ‘Krishna’ by 10.30 am to submit the first report.
As the State Assembly elections are due to be held within 3 months, there is a strong possibility of the committee recommending a considerable growth in the salaries 5.45 lakh workers, 3 lakh retired workers and their dependents, as an appeasement strategy.
The commission may recommend, increased Fitment (the amount to remove discrimination) for those who have a low salary scale and less fitment for those who already have a minimum salary of Rs.40,000.
A demand for a five-day work schedule for the employees is also being considered. The commission, it is learnt, may recommend declaring a holiday on fourth Saturday, along with the second Saturday.
The government had directed the commission to study administrative reforms and give recommendations. The commission has written a letter to the government that they require at least 3 months of time. According to the commission sources, the recommendations related to administrative reforms and increase in the bonus will be submitted in the second report.
