Udupi : Halady Srinivas Shetty, Independent MLA from Kundapur legislative assembly segment tendered his resignation on Tuesday, January 30. He tendered his resignation to K B Kolivada, speaker of the assembly at Ranibennur of Haveri district last evening.
Four time MLA, Shetty was earlier in the BJP and then resigned. However, later he helped the BJP despite contesting as an independent leader. After tendering resignation, Shetty said that if his resignation is accepted he will chalk out his next political move, mainly with regard to joining the BJP after discussing with his supporters.
Halady Srinivas Shetty was present during BJP’s Parivarthana Rally in Udupi and Yeddyurapa had even declared that Shetty will be BJP’s candidate from Kundapura in the upcoming polls. But this declaration irked a section of BJP workers and also the RSS. An anti-Halady faction has taken to social media to oppose his re-entry into the BJP. They have said that in 20 years Shetty has not done any commendable work for Kundapura.
It is believed that Union Minister Prakash Javdekar asked Shetty to resign by January end. The two had met during Javdekar’s visit to Udupi.
