Mangaluru: Former captain of Indian cricket team and under 19 cricket team coach, Rahul Dravid advised that in order to remain in the team, every player needs to adapt to all three formats of cricket and excel in them.
Addressing the reporters at TMA Pai International Conventional Hall in city on Tuesday, April 23, he said, “It is the need of the hour for a player to adapt the techniques of all formats of cricket. Earlier, the strike rate of 120-125 was quite good. But, after the introduction of 20-20 cricket, the strike rate of every player went high. Hence, in order to remain in the team, one should excel very well in all formats of cricket.”
On the Indian cricket team selected for the next world cup Dravid, said, “It is a very balanced team and the players selected have performed well in the last two years. I hope the team will do well in world cup tournament”.
Responding to a query on Karnataka’s player K L Rahul representing India in the world cup, Dravid said that K L Rahul had been playing very well in the recent days. “Rahul is a very special player and he has proven his ability in all forms of the cricket. Though he has seen ups and downs in his career in the last two years, he has shown a lot of improvement in every match. There is a lot of expectation from him.”
Dravid informed that he started reading when he started playing. “The habit of reading helped me distract from worries and tensions. But nowadays students gain knowledge from other sources also”, he added.
Dravid bowled out by kid
Prior to interacting with the mediapersons, Dravid launched the Manipal Arogya Card (MAC). Later he played with the children under treatment for cancer and enthralled them. When he was bowled out by a very little boy, he congratulated him.
