Bengaluru: A case has been filed against BBMP Mayor B.N. Manjunath Reddy accusing him of filing false affidavit with the Election Commission while contesting for the BBMP mayoral elections.
The complainant N.P. Amrutesh, a city-based advocate, who had initially filed a complaint with the 6th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, said that earlier, he had filed a case with the police and the Election Commission but no action was taken. Hence, he decided to approach the court.
The complainant alleged that Reddy claimed that he did not have property, did not pay any taxes and also didn’t have a PAN card. However, Amrutesh contended that Reddy not only has a PAN card, but also availed loans using the same to purchase property.
The court has scheduled the hearing on December 30.
However, the mayor denied had all the allegations when the initial complaint was filed in October, while addressing a press meet and said that he had contested five times for the civic polls.
“I have filed an affidavit as per the rules of the Election Commission. If the charges are proved, I will resign and also take retirement from politics, he had said at the meet.
