Bengaluru: Former underworld don Agni Sreedhar on Monday submitted a memorandum to Director General of Police R K Dutta alleging police excess by Hemant Nimbalkar, Additional Commissioner of Police (East).
Addressing a press meet, Agni Sreedhar said the police have booked him under Arms Act for possessing guns. “I had taken permission to keep guns for safety purposes from the Bengaluru city police commissioner in 2010,” Sridhar said.
He said that on February 8 around 9.30 am several officers raided his house in search of Rohit, a suspect in Srinivas’ attempted murder since Rohith was not there, they were about to leave the place. “At 10.05 am Hemant Nimbalkar came to my home and accused me with rough language. When I questioned his behaviour, he accused me of sheltering criminals and associating with North Indian contract killers. I explained to him that the North Indians were my body guards and I already had the city commissioner’s approval, but he instigated a police inspector to slap me and booked me and others in a false criminal case,” he said.
He said that if the State police do not act in a week, many organisations would stage protests against the police. He also alleged that this was an attempt to dismantle the organisations that he is working with.
On February 3, two persons fired at Dasanahalli APMC President Kadabagere Srinivas while he was travelling in a Scorpio near Kogilu cross. Following the incident, police arrested several people including Sunil alias Silent Sunil and Rohith alias Onte Rohith who is attached with Agni Sreedhar’s organisation.
Agni Sreedhar, his close associate Bachan, and seven others were arrested by police for possessing arms but were later released on bail.
