Benagluru: In a shocking incident, a house owner tied a labourer to the outside of his third-floor apartment’s window in Arakere on Bannerghatta Road. Reportedly, the apartment owner tied the labourer to the grill of the window upon mistaking him for a thief. He was rescued by firemen.

The incident occured in the wee hours on Saturday, February 22, at around 5.30 AM, according to police.

The labourer is identified as Suhant B (28), a native of West Bengal, who, according to police, was merely trying to escape from his colleagues with whom he had a fight at a building site. Police say that Suhant had no other intentions.

Police informed that Suhant is an alcoholic and had not reported for work for two weeks. He also, police said, regularly got into fights with the others every night.

When Saturday’s incident occurred, Suhant was trying to escape from his colleagues who were assault him, and climbed to the third floor of the building. When he began to fear that he might fall, he clung onto the window and began shouting for help.

The apartment owner woke up upon hearing the cries, mistook Suhant for a thief and tied him to the window. He alerted his neighbours, who in turn alerted the police.

Personnel from the Puttenahalli police station rushed to the spot and alerted fire and emergency services of the situation. It took a team half an hour to get Suhant to safety. He was then taken into custody.

After a medical test, doctors concluded that he was mentally disturbed.
